How to use the Workout Weather Planner
Workout Weather Planner finds the best time to start a workout from the forecast for your location, up to 16 days ahead.
Open the Workout Weather Planner
How to use it
- Set the date, workout duration and your time window (earliest start, latest finish). Then enter a place name or coordinates.
- Optionally import a planned workout from Intervals.icu to fill in the date and duration.
- Pick a conditions preference: Cool & dry, Mild, Warm, or Custom with your own ideal temperature and weightings.
- Read the timeline and up to four suggested start times, at least an hour apart, each with the reasons it scored well.
How it works
Each possible start time gets a score from 0 to 100, averaged over the whole workout. The score combines how close the feels-like temperature is to your ideal (feels-like already accounts for humidity and wind), rain amount and chance, wind, humidity (only when it's warm) and UV (only when it's high). The forecast comes from Open-Meteo, sent directly to your browser.
Heat makes a real difference. In an analysis of 6 to 36 years of results from each of seven major marathons, finishing times slowed steadily as conditions warmed from 5 to 25 °C wet-bulb globe temperature, and slower runners were affected more than the fastest (Ely et al., 2007).
